Creative Journaling – Again

Hi Memory Savers,

Today I am continuing on the theme of being creative with where we journal.  Yesterday I showed you how easy it is to journal on a doily.  Todays takes more work but the results are awesome!

I wanted to sew a journaling “box”.  In this case I wanted to make a Santa hat.  I am not very good at drawing.  Even simple shapes can throw me.  To make a Santa hat I decided to first find one on Google image and try and freehand the example.  I drew the image and then cut it out.  Using a needle I pushed holes all the way around the Santa hat.

I then sewed the hat.  On the top I used a flat red thread and on the bottom I used a metallic red thread.

Before sewing on the thread I wanted to make the ball to go on the hat.  I knew it would take drying time so I went ahead and took care of it.  I decided to use a large white eyelet.  I smeared quick dry adhesive all over the top and sprinkled it with glitter.  I then let it dry.

After sewing the hat I was able to use it as a wonderful journaling area.  I used a contrasting ink color – green.

To finish the page I Used a piece of decorative cardstock and trimmed the area I wanted to use and adhered it to the the page.  I then adhered Absey’s picture to the page.  I went around the edges of her picture with washi tape.  I thought something was missing so I added a rub-on to the Santa hat and the glitter eyelet.

Finished and SO cute!

  1. Very creative. Look how far you have come in just a few months. You have come up with so many fun ideas. Isn’t it exciting when something turns out just right? Love the little Santa hat with the glittery ball on the end of his hat. As for Abby, well, who can say more? Looks like she is waiting for Santa. And for the red shoes–she is from Kansas you know. ha

  2. That is a good idea using the santa hat pattern. I like how you used the glitter yarn and the glitter eyelet. I thought you were going to use a cotton ball!! Hope everyone is having a great day.
