A super easy (and inexpensive) project. I made a wreath out of a pool noodle, flip flops, flowers, sunglasses, and sandbox shovels. We already had the pool noodle and sandbox shovels (although I promised my grandson I would replace the sandbox shovels). The flip flops, flowers, and sunglasses were from Dollar Tree. I saw a similar one selling on Pinterest for $80. Not this girl. 😉
The hardest part was making the pool noodle want to stay in a circular shape. My hubby rolled it up and held it in place a few times. He then took a dowel that fit into the ends of the rounded pool noodle and hot glued it into the ends. The dowel was only 6-8″ long. We also put hot glue onto the ends of the pool noodle to help hold it together. Finally, we used duct tape.
The pool noodle is put together and we are gluing on the flip flops.
We figured out the pattern that we wanted the flip flops in (I did get children small flip flops) and then started hot gluing them on alternating which way they pointed into the center. To add stability to the flip flops we put 1/2 toothpick into each side of the flip flop They virtually disappear when they are pushed down into the sole. We used another toothpick to push down on the ones going into the shoes.
Finished summer wreath.
The last flip flop overlapped the other slightly. It was fine because it was at the top of the wreath. We added a pair of sunglasses to the top of the wreath. The ear pieces folded into the straps of the flip flops and we added hot glue. We pulled the flowers off the stems and hot glued one in between each flip flop. Some of them are kind of squashed but it covers up the noodle and adds a splash of red. Finally we hot glued the shovels onto the bottom of the wreath. There are a few places that the pool noodle peeks through but I think it is fine because it is just another summer toy.
Hanging on our front door.
I love this wreath. I always feel so accomplished when I finish something like this and I REALLY like it.
And happy memorial day! So many times we think of this weekend in terms of the beginning of summer, bbqs, going to the lake (or beach in my case), or any number of things. We all need to remind ourselves of those who have made the choice to sacrifice themselves so that we have these privileges. My dad was in the Air force. My eldest was in the Marines. Neither of them fought a war but they volunteered to if necessary. My nephew was in the Army and went to Iraq and is now in the guard. God bless our soldiers!
Now on to something fun. The beach! Can’t get much more fun than that. This is when my girlfriends came to visit. These are very easy peasy pages that I am making. I really want to have a lot of the album done before I take it with me to KS this summer. Summer is almost here.
Enjoying Coligny Beach.
I used a very cute and beachy decorative paper for the background. I added a cute street sign sticker on the left of the page. I then started layering the pics. I trimmed off the 2nd picture so that it wouldn’t cover the sticker or the palm tree. On the bottom picture I added a border sticker across the bottom. I also added a piece of this sticker on the top picture. I added chipboard shells and a vacation sticker on the page and decided it was finished.
Hope I get some beach time soon. I need to hear the waves coming in and feel the sand and water on my feet.
God bless America!
This was a crazy PL because we were on Spring Break in CA. I had 5 pages – 2 were on the previous post.
Page 3 of PL week 15.
The first small slot has a PL journaling card that I put a friends sticker on. I wrote about how my CA friends and I like doing puzzles together and we did 2 on this trip. I had a pic of one of the puzzles in the large slot below. I put a sticker that says getaway on the puzzle picture. I changed ink color on the journaling card and wrote how we enjoyed the great outdoors while we were in CA. The second horizontal large picture is of Tim skateboarding down a mountain driveway. Kind of crazy that I let him – I know. The second small slot is of Tim posing beneath a wax figure of Raquel Welch. I am such a bad mama. First let him risk life and limb skateboarding and then posing with a scantily dressed older woman figure. Hmmm. The first large vertical slot is part of the tickets from the wax museum that I printed off from the computer. I added a Hard Rock Cafe toothpick (cut off the pointy tip) to the side of the ticket paper. I also journaled on some blank space about our Friday in LA. Down below that pic is another vertical picture of Tim posing with Katniss from Hunger Games figure.
PL week 15 page 4.
The first vertical pic is of Brad with Dirty Harry. The second vertical pic is my friend, Debbie, with Elvis. The first small slot has a pic of Brad dancing with Beyonce. The second small slot has a pic of my friend, Alicia, posing with Alfred Hitchcock on his set. The first large horizontal picture is with Brad and Tim with the Terminator. Finally the bottom horizontal pic is of Brad and I with Will Smith. I didn’t bother to even write on this page. By this time I was just trying to finish week 15 and thought all of these were pretty self explanatory.
PL Week 15 page 5.
The first pic is of all of us (except Brad who is taking the picture) in a 4d movie at the wax museum. The second large slot on the top row is of a large PL journaling card. I put a gold lettered acrylic card over it that says Make Today Great. On the left of the journaling card I journaled about how at Hard Rock we asked the waiter what we should do for the afternoon. He asked if we had been to the Santa Monica Pier. We hadn’t, so after our friends went back home we drove to the pier. We walked the pier and the beach and then walked to the mall. We had to take a bus back from the mall to our car because my feet were killing me. I took a picture of the pedometer that I was wearing to show the number of steps I had that day. In the first small slot I put a picture of Billy Grahams star in LA. In the second slot I took a PL aqua card and added two strips of acetate movie film. I thought it turned out extremely cute. The third small slot was my pedometer picture. The fourth small slot is a PL card that says, “Go on an adventure”. I added a strip of the acetate movie film and a rubber suitcase sticker on top of that. On the bottom row (and last row of week 15!) I have a picture of all of us eating at Hard Rock Cafe and a picture of Tim standing in front of a tv screen at Hard Rock. Twenty -One Pilots (his all time favorite group) was playing. Awesome time!
That is all. I am so excited to be finished with this layout.
Today I am showing you the first part of my Project Life layout. It is a big one because it was spring break and my husband, youngest son, and I flew to CA to visit with our friends and to tour some sites.
Page 1 of PL week 15.
I made my week 15 card out of a PL spring card. I added a CA decoration and the alpha letters and numbers for week 15. I wrote “break” beneath the word “spring”. This page is what we did right after we landed in LA and rented a car. We went to the Supreme store which my son has been looking forward to (and saving his money for) for quite some time. There was another shoe store that he had been wanting to visit that was right down the street. Tim did get a hat and a pair of shoes. On the way into the store he saw someone that he knew was a pro skater. Afterwards he asked him if he was who he thought he was (Jason something – I think) and it was confirmed. He was kind enough to take a picture with Tim. The bottom left pic is of my feet. They were so swollen after the long flights and then riding in the car that I propped them up on the dash. I had to take a picture of how bad they were. If they disgust you just keep scrolling. 🙂
Page 2 of PL week 15.
In the top large slot I had to document. I did put a very cute airplane sticker. The top small slot is part of a sticker that they gave away at a little cafe where we ate lunch in LA. I did use a slick writer marker and wrote lunch in LA on the sticker. The large bottom left picture is two things. I “spliced” the pictures together onto one PL card. The top one is of the entrance to Woodward West camp. It is a camp for a lot of sports including skateboarding. The bottom right pic is of a huge ramp that is there. We got a tour of the camp and my son is booked for this summer. Now, THAT is what he is working and saving for. The bottom pic of the “spliced” pictures is of me and my buddy standing in front of a mail box that we found that says, “Debs”. Both of us are Debs so we had to have our pic taken with it. I added two “D” stickers to the picture. The other small slot explains the mailbox picture and I put a nice friend sentiment sticker below the explanation. Finally, the last horizontal pic that I haven’t talked about is Brad and Tim in front of Brad’s favorite store – Fry’s Electronics.
We had a great time in California with our family friends. There are more pictures to follow of the remainder of the week.
This is a big week! This week has Easter (which includes pretty clothes for church, Easter egg hunt, a new swing set is finally ready to play on), a new nephew, and much more every day stuff (like Abs first soccer practice). It is a three page layout. Lets go!
Week 14 (Easter)!
This page is all about pretty clothes for church, Easter baskets, and egg hunts (lots of them).
PL week 14 continued.
This page is all about Easter egg hiding places, new swing set ready to play on, and precious nephew Jep. I took a project life chevron card and wrote what I always think of on Easter. “He is risen.” “He is risen, indeed.” I put a sticker on the bottom that says, “thinking of you….” and I added a little cross in the corner of it. I also added a few flower stickers.
Everyday PL week 14.
This page has Absey’s first soccer practice, dapper Diego, a picture of Tim in physical therapy (had to sneak that picture), a picture of my sore foot that has been giving me trouble for months (Terri and I swapped pictures to verify that we have a pain in the same place), a flower arrangement that I made, and finally a gross stinky mushroom that was discovered in our front yard. We dug it up but I had to take a picture of it.
God bless all of you!
Another week has been scrapped. I always feel such accomplishment when I finish a week. Low goals? 😉
PL week 13 – birthday week.
The first pic is of my granddaughter, Lily. I added a few birthday stickers right on top of the picture. She turned 4. She is blowing out some candles (wish I was there!!!). The right pic on the top row is of Lily in a dress that I sent her. She is peeking out her door. The top small slot is a piece of decorative polka dot (yellow and white) paper. On top is a clear plastic PL card that has “I” and a heart in gold. I wrote Lily in gold on the decorative paper. I certainly do love that girl and don’t see her NEAR enough!
The bottom left large pic is of Amber and Abby at Paula Deen’s restaurant in Savannah. We were celebrating Amber’s 25th birthday. The next 3 small slots are filled with pics of Amber’s birthday. I ran out of room for a PL week card so I put alpha stickers for week 13 right on top of a picture.
Finally, the last large picture is of Ben running his first 5k. It was with the company he works for. He has ran a couple of more since then. Ben use to run a lot in high school and it looks like he might be getting back into it. Makes me happy.
God bless all of you!
Hi my fellow crafters,
When people come to visit me I love to take them to my favorite beach. It is just a hop, skip, and a jump from my home (ok, closer to 30 minutes but when you lived in KS most of your life it feels like it is just around the corner). This layout is when I took two of my buddies to Coligny.
Showing off Coligny.
Once more I had just a few minutes so I am all about the quick page. I had this piece of decorative paper laid out since I started this album. I just didn’t know what pictures I was going to use on it. Now I know. 🙂 I trimmed down my pics and adhered them to the page. I added stickers on all the picture corners. I also added a FRIEND sticker. That is honestly all I did to this page. Sometimes that is all you need to do or the page has too much going on.
Four more pics are where they belong. My album is one page closer to being finished. Life is good!
