Cricut Time – and a tip

Hi guys,

September 11th.  Lots of thoughts come to my mind with the mention of that date.  First, of course, is the destruction of the twin towers and the loss of many lives.  When I think of that act I start thinking of how horrible people can be.  There is evil beyond anything I could even dream of.  But then, September 11th is the birthday of a wonderful friend of mine.  She would do anything for you and is the exact opposite of the people responsible for 9/11.  She is a person that inspires me.  Happy birthday, Linda!

Today, I am scrapping one more page from the Kansas concert.  I have a Cricut cartridge that is called “Paper Dolls – teen scene”.  I remembered that one of the dolls had a guitar and I thought it would be cool to “Cri”cut a guitar for this layout.  I found some cardstock that had small guitars on it.  I cut a guitar out on that paper but then was sad to realize that it had a cut out on the guitar where the paper doll guy’s hand would be.  🙁  So…. a little more work but I used the cutout of the guitar and traced a guitar (filling in where the empty spot for the hand was).  I cut it out by hand.  Old school.  😉

I matted two of the photos together (overlapping them to cover unnecessary area).  I attached them to a page of decorative cardstock from a Route 66 pad of paper.  I then attached another photo (this one is of the huge banner displayed on the ship) to the top right side of the page.  I used a “Our Carnival Cruise” border sticker across the top of the page (and across the photo).  I also attached the hand cut guitar (covering part of one photo) to the layout.

Now for the tip:

*To put a title on the page (I put the word kansas) it helps to have a ruler and to place all the letters on the very top of the ruler.  Space them just how you would like them on the layout.  Then…put them on the paper (exactly where you want them) and press them on.  Hold down on top of them with one hand and remove the ruler with the other.

I really like how the page turned out.  It was a fun night for Brad and I.  We hadn’t been to a concert in a VERY long time.

God bless!

Another Shutterfly Album

Hello,

Last week I received an email that I could get a free Shutterfly album.  It would be 8″x8″ and 20 pages.  I jumped on it last night.  The only problem was I had over 200 pictures that I wanted in the album.  Before, I had always kept these albums to the 20 page limit.  This time I went over.  But….I ended up paying $28 and it would have been $58.

Needless to say this album took several hours to create.  My son and I went to church (hubby working), went to the mall for a few hours, ate lunch, and then came home.  After a bit I went upstairs to start the album.  I worked on it until 1 AM.  I stopped to get my son his vitamins and let the dog go to the bathroom.  I instructed my son to get ready for bed because it was a school night.  My husband came home after 9 and I kept plugging away upstairs.  I didn’t eat dinner (or feed my son – he is a few weeks shy of 16 so I am sure he didn’t starve), get a drink, give my husband a kiss hello….  It was a strange night.  I did finish the album.

The more I use Shutterfly the more fun I have with it.  I don’t get the creativity of traditional scrapping but I am getting better at it.  My sis-in-law is much more creative than I am with it.  But she is SO awesome!

Here are a few pics that I put in the album.

I had so many memories from this summer!  So, don’t just traditional scrapbook.  Once in awhile (especially when you get a great offer) try something else.  It can be a lot of fun!

Project Life Week 36

Hello friends,

Today I have finished week 36 of Project Life.  I didn’t dress it up much – pretty much let the pictures speak for themselves.  😉

The left side of PL week 36.

The left side of PL week 36.

The layout is almost completely about Labor Day weekend.

The top left pic is of Karl and Jensen going on a scooter ride (one of several – that scooter is popular).  The small pics are of Brad and Thor playing badminton (didn’t realized badminton was spelled like that).  Several of us played but couldn’t put all of the pics here.  Of course the bottom left pic is of my favorite one year old – Jensen.  He really enjoyed the weekend and we really enjoyed him.  The group pics are of all of us that use to hang out in NC.  Wish our other buddies could have been here (The Hueys, the Brocks, the Manns….).  Still….reminded us of old times.  For journaling I used a slick writer pen and wrote directly on the photos.  Who has room for a journaling card?

I tried to get a pic of everyone at our picnic.  The top left pic is of Steve, Rosa, Tamara, and John eating and chatting.  The right top pic and the small pic below it is of another ping pong match.  John’s boys are great players.  The other small pic is of Jensen at the beach.  He had a great time playing in the sand.  Below that is Karl and Fannie enjoying the water.  Finally, the last pic isn’t over the long weekend.  It is two pics adhered together of Tim unwrapping and wearing a new hat that he had been saving for.

I did want to mention that on the Week 36 card.  I used a “W” and “K” brad but I didn’t have any “E” brads.  I used plain black brads to take the place of the “E”s.  That can be done a lot with vowels.  People tend to have no problem figuring out what needs to be replaced.

Well, Week 36 is documented.  Really, it was mostly the weekend but there were so many pics that I wanted to show.  🙂

God bless everyone!

Kansas Concert

Hello friends,

Today I started scrapping the Kansas concert that was on our cruise.  I wrote about the experience – how when we booked the cruise that the only cruise that worked for us had the group Kansas playing.  We got a chuckle over that because we are from Kansas and because we really like some of their music.  I also wrote about where we sat at and how we liked the concert.  I printed it off and used blue ink to make it pop.  I then trimmed it down and attached it to a piece of decorative  paper that I got on the ship.

I then adhered two pictures to the right hand side of the decorative page.  I had to trim a little of one off the top.  Added several pieces of washi tape to the layout.  I then adhered both Brad and I’s tickets.  One showing the front (the concert did NOT take place on the 14th) and then one showing the back of the ticket.  I added a final touch of a wooden decoration that says, “Life is Good”.  I like how the washi tape shows through the lettering.

A fun layout for a fun night.  I didn’t put it on the page but Brad and I were pretty tired at the concert because it happened after our trip into Nassau.  I might have to put that on the next layout about the concert.  🙂

God bless y’all!

Braids

Hi guys,

I stole this idea off of Facebook.  It is so fun to take someone else’s idea and to make it your own.

The layout that I scraplifted from "Scrapbooking 24/7".

The layout that I scraplifted from “Scrapbooking 24/7”.

My layout of getting my hair braided in the Bahamas.

My layout of getting my hair braided in the Bahamas.

As you can see, a lot of similarities but a lot of differences.  I first took a plain sheet of tan cardstock and dabbed it with Smooch pearlized accent inks.  They look like nail polish bottles.  I then sprayed a few squirts of Sprinklers Pink Balloon color mist.

While the paper was drying I cut strips of scrap paper.  I tried to use scraps of what I had used in the album to try and make this layout blend with my album.  I then started laying the strips vertically down the inked paper.  I attached each strip at the top.  I then started weaving the strips horizontally.  I attached those paper strips at the beginning and then at the end.  After all the strips were woven I attached the bottom of the vertical strips.

My scrapping – high school friend -, Terri gave me  the vellum Bahama Mama tag.  She found it after she saw my pics of the braided hair.  I attached it to aqua cardstock and then attached that to the layout.  I then double matted my pics and attached them to the layout.

The final touch was taking die-cut flowers and a journaling tag and attaching them to the page.  I played around with the placement a lot before attaching them.

Fun page.  The only thing I might do differently is ink the edges of the photo mats.  That might of had them pop more…..next time.  🙂

God bless and don’t forget to scraplift!

Project Life Week 35

Hi peeps!

Hope you had a wonderful 3 day weekend!  We had company and I love company!

Today I caught up on Project Life week 35.  It was a good week.  🙂

Left side of PL week 35.

On the first top picture I have food that vegetarians typically use.  My husband wants to get rid of all red meat and drastically reduce all meat in his diet.  A friend took us shopping.  I have cooked with the TVP three times and all of us have liked it (takes the place of ground meat).

The top right pic is of some of my charms on a Pandora bracelet.  My friend, Grace, sent me a charm a few weeks ago and this is the first time I have worn it.  It is the one towards the bottom of the picture.  I love it!

The bottom left and then the small pic on the bottom is of a huge moth that was by our front door for two mornings.  It wasn’t very pretty but very odd looking.  It was very big.

Finally the bottom right pic (not a great pic because the camera flight kept blinding me) is of me walking along the beach at night.  It was the first time that we had done that since moving to the beach area.  I think we will have to do it more often.

Right side of PL week 35.

The first small pic and then the first horizontal picture is of Tim’s school on B days.  (On A days he goes to the traditional high school)  I finally got a picture of this school and then I took one of him walking in.

The second small pic and then the top vertical picture is of bells and beads hanging on a wire.  My daughter in law and grandkids made them for me.  I wasn’t sure how to display them.  Finally I just did it – and I love it.

The bottom left horizontal picture is a saying on the wall of a new smoothie shop we found.  They make smoothies just like the smoothies I love so much in Greensboro.  Yippee!  The saying is one that I have seen in several places over the last few weeks.  It was funny (ironic) when it was in this new shop that we found.

Finally, the last picture was taken at Wendy’s when I went to get a salad at lunch.  I have never seen Wendy at Wendy’s.  So funny!

Well, that is all for this week of PL.

Hope your week was a great one and you took a few pics to document it!
