Showing Off the Transparency

Hi friends,

Last time I used transparencies on my layout it didn’t scan well.  I decided to try again but use a lighter background paper.  It worked well.  I used a pale blue background paper.  I punched stars.  Before I adhered my pictures I cut around the people and then I matted the top part of the pictures. After deciding where I wanted my star transparencies to be I used a paper piercer and pierced both the transparency and the paper.  I then used a brad in the center of each star to hold it in place.

I then added a rub on and wrote in the details.  After that I found a few stickers and completed the layout.

Love the subtleness of the transparent stars (before they were too subtle).

Hope your day is a happy one!

God bless!

Making a Quilted Border

I received a wonderful surprise in the mail a few months ago.  It has been buried in all of my moving stuff.  It was two pictures of me and my high school besties that we had taken while we were together at Christmas in KS.  I decided to go ahead and make a layout of them and eventually I will work them into an album.

I decided to make a quilt look again.  This time I used a large square punch and 5 different scraps of paper.  After I punched out squares from each scrap I cut them all into four triangles.  I then took turns putting them back into squares but I used four different triangles for each square.  I went in order so that all of my triangles were different.  I left a slight gap between each triangle.

Remember that they don’t have to be perfect to look magnificent.  I then added the number border at the side and circled the 25 for Christmas day and then the music border at the bottom of the page.  Christmas always makes me think of music.  Finally I added my two pictures, a few stickers, and finally our names and date.  Love it!

I am getting in the Christmas spirit and it isn’t even Halloween.  :)]

An Awesome Page

Hi friends,

Today I have another awesome layout courtesy of my bud, Terri.  Terri is one hard working lady.  She grows her own garden, has chickens, and in the past has had many farm animals.  She not only grows the veggies but she cans them, too.  This year she canned like CRAZY.  Being a scrapper she documented along the way.  🙂

Terri wanted some canning decorations for her layout but couldn’t find any at local arts and craft stores.  Finally, when she and her hubby were on a little outing, she found a mason jar sticker (empty jar) and then a piece of decorative paper.  She cut out the jars from the paper and then she went to town.    She is amazing!

Thanks, Terri for the great layout and the inspiration to get busy next year and can our own veggies.  😉

God bless you everyone!

Progress and Fun

Hi my fellow crafty ones,

This week we have accomplished a lot and had a lot of fun.  We had a wonderful visit from our friends from NC.  Our friends from FL planned on coming but they had an unexpected business trip.  🙁  When our friends visited we went to a local arts and seafood festival.  It was very good.  There was so much that I wanted to buy.  I only bought a handmade wind chime.  My friend, Fannie, bought one, too.  They look totally different.  Mine had an ocean theme and hers was a cat.  The food was excellent.  Local restaurants came with their yummiest.

We played ping pong.  My hubby loves ping pong and I found a table at a garage sale the weekend before.  It has to stay in the garage but folded up it doesn’t take too much room.  I am going to try and improve my game – add a little spin to the ball.  🙂

We had a bbq.  It was good but too much meat and not enough sides.  That is my opinion.  But I love all the side dishes.

On Sunday we went to Savannah so they could see River Street.  We ate more seafood.  After the tour they had to leave to make their trek home.

After we got home from Savannah, Brad and Tim finished the skateboarding grind box.  They have talked about this project for a long time and worked on it for a few weeks.  Now it is finished except it needs protection (paint) and some wheels to make it easier to move.  It is HEAVY!  Tim (and a few neighborhood kids) gave it a try.  They still have some practicing to do.

So, before I quit uploading pics I wanted to post a picture that my grandson drew.  My son took a cell phone picture of it and sent it to me.

On Monday Brad went to Vegas to a geek (I mean technical) convention.  He gets home tonight.  🙂 We had gutters put on our house – finally.  We have been talking about needing gutters since we started looking at this house.  Also, more boxes have been unpacked.  🙂  Things are shaping up.

Hope you have a great weekend.  We are going to see Brad’s bro and his family.  They are great people and a lot of fun!  Can’t wait!

God bless!

Repurposing with Style

Hi everyone!

This is Debbie but I am bringing you a layout made by Terri.  She made a page using several pictures of her daughter bursting out laughing.  She knew she wanted the title to be “A laugh is a smile that burst!”  She wanted to add some elements that portrayed the “bursting” but she couldn’t find what she wanted.  So….she made her own.

She was at a craft store and ended up in the artificial flower section.  She found some sparkly, silver, bouquet fillers.  She bought them and then pulled them apart.  She hot glued them to a flower petal and added a button on top.  She was successful in making her page burst.  Good job, Terri!

Thanks again, Terri, for sharing your fun ideas!

Matting with a Triangle

This layout is coming to you via my bestie, Terri.  She sent me a picture of a few of her newest layouts.  We have company coming this weekend so I am going to show you her very cool and unique layouts and try and get my house ready for visitors.

On this first layout she used triangles to mat her photos.  Most of the time I use a rectangle just slightly bigger than the square.  I really thought this idea was simple and unique.

Terri's awesome page.

She also used some artificial moss (what you use when making a “fake” plant arrangement) to make a nest.  She dipped it in some stiffener and arranged it and let it dry before using it.  She used a wonderful enamel dot for the egg.  Oh, the flexibility of those dots.  😉

Cute page, Terri!

Come back tomorrow for another fun Terri idea.

God bless!

Circle Grid

Today I wanted to keep the grid theme but to use circles instead of squares.  I love circles.  In my last house we had a room that we called the circle room.  I think I posted on this before.  We had a piece of metal art work that was circles and a painting that was circles.  Then two of our chairs had round seats and each had pillows with circles on them.  We also had a rug that had circles.  I finally had to STOP.  I found a lot of things I wanted but it was getting silly.  Strange…..

So….today I punched a bunch of circles from the same color.  I also punched some stars to add to a few of the circles.  Here is the layout I came up with.

Joe kicking (and breaking) a board using Taekwondo techniques. my sister is holding the board.

As you can see it is a pretty simple layout.  Black cardstock with blue circles and a smattering of stars.  I matted the picture and used big letter stickers.  Fun page!

Hope you have some adventure today!

God bless!

Working on a Grid

Now that I found my punches I am doing a few projects that I put on hold.  One of them is using my 3 1/2″ square punch.  I punched several different scrap papers (5) (great way to use up scraps).  I then started adhering them to a black piece of cardstock.

After I completed the grid I matted the photo on black cardstock and then adhered that to the layout.  Finally I dug out my stamps and stamped a date and a camera on the cream colored squares.  I have unpacked my stamps and I do have my black ink but all the other ink pads are still packed away.  Hopefully they will be in the next box.  😛

Hope your fall day is wonderful!

Quickie Post

Hi my friends, family, and followers,

This is just a quick post because I have FRIENDS visiting today.  My house is crazy with stuff and I have loads to do.  But I am very excited.  It is my friends from NC who have a wee one.  He will be one the last day of November.  I KNOW he has changed so much since we last saw him.  My friends from FL are also coming back because they use to live in NC and know our NC friends.  Confused?  Just know we are going to have a great weekend.

We now have the main level of our home painted.  It looks so much fresher.

These guys did a super job and they were very reasonable.

We have actually hung a few pictures.  Our house is starting to look like our home.  I have also been calling around for piano instructors.  I have found three possibilities.  I think in a few weeks Tim will be starting piano.

I have had a busy week but things are falling in place.  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

God bless and talk to you Monday!
